The writing process

How long did it take you write your book?
I have been working on Passing Through for two years. With four kids, there isn't a luxury of endless hours that I can work. I usually get a stretch of an hour at a time, two or three on good day. But that can be beneficial to the creative process; I've found that my creative juices are strongest when I first sit down to write. Knowing that I have set amount of time, I'm certain to use it wisely and avoid distractions like Facebook, Pinterest, and email.

How did you come up with the idea?
I had recently read a book called Many Lives Many masters, in it a woman remembers her past lives and gets answer for things that were happening in her current life. I wanted an answer to a question that had bothered me for quite some time. I dove in and starting writing from there. Miraculously, I got my answer. It was very therapeutic. Everyone who is going through a divorce should write a book ; )
Where and on what do you write?
I write in my bedroom and on my laptop. If I get an idea while I am out of the house I write it down on whatever I can find: the back of a receipt or the back of my kids homework ( that has already been turned in and graded, of course) or my least favorite place, on the notepad of my phone.
What distracts you the most?
The need to talk with another person. My kids usually can sense it and seek me out. All the while they regret it and look at me like, when are you going to stop talking? But hey, writing all day can be lonesome.
When did you know you wanted to be a writer?
I think I was five or six, I wrote my own fairy tale the way I wanted it go. And later in high school when I took honors English. Looking forward to my writing assignments when everyone else was complaining about them, was a big sign. When I write now and have blessed with four straight hours, but it only feels like five minutes, I know its what I was meant to do.

Any advice?
Practice constantly! The more you do something the better you will get.
Any last words?
Always choose joy and do what makes you feel good. We all know that life is too short. Why not just surround yourself with only the people, things, places, and events that bring you happiness? Remember to always be grateful for everything. Never give up. Never stop doing what you love, and always find a way for your dreams to become part of your reality.

Synopsis

                      Just Passing Through

When thirty three year old stay at home mom, Jordyn King, struggles with her unsatisfying marriage she begins to wonder: what if she is meant to be with someone else? And what if there is a way to find for certain?
Before leading herself, her children, and her husband down the brutal path of divorce she longs for an absolute and concrete answer. As chance would have it, she stumbles upon the answers she desperately seeks when her path crosses a mysterious woman named Winifred, while camping in Blackfoot, Idaho. Winifred helps Jordyn recall her past lives: one when she lived as Charlotte Westbrook, in Charleston, South Carolina in 1943. While in Charleston she meets a wealthy business man, Duncan Cunningham. Quickly she finds herself in a love triangle and torn between John McLeod and Duncan, resulting in her swearing off all men and becoming her own best friend. Later, Jordyn also remembers her time in Heartfordshire, England in 1811, when she was known as Amelia Prescott. Amelia attempts to fit in socially, under her sister Maryanne's wing. Both girls eventually marry, leaving their parents to pick up the pieces of a wrongful family inheritance situation. While Jordyn remembers both of these critical times from her past, she finds insight about who she was and who she is meant to be. Who is ever present within all of her lives, as well as who she should steer clear of at all costs.

` This is my first novel. I have also written four children's books that remain unpublished. I am a soon to be single mother of four. When I am not writing, I spend my free time looking after my kids, reading, and chasing after my two cats. My kids, cats, and I reside in Pocatello, Idaho.

Just Passing through

After drinking the tea that would forever change her path, Adelaide ran from the physics view. Peering through her cloudy window, the physic desperately hoped she would be alright. Adelaide didn't know she had forever altered her life as well as other lives to come. As she raced through the muddy forest in search of him, her heart fluttered quickly and her breath quickened. The physic sighed and turned back to her cottage to wait, hoping she hadn't made a terrible mistake.

Earlier that day was average and no different from any other day that Adelaide had had in the last eighteen years.
A whisper of wind rustled the leaves on the trees while the sun sparkled off the drops of dew. It peaked through the spider webbed branches into the window. Where she still slept. A bird began its sweet lilting song, lulling her further out of a dream and into the waking world.

Visions of him had encompassed her thoughts throughout the night. Teasing her into thinking that maybe he would love her.
However, in her dreams Adelaide was beautiful.
